The Blind Man And The Scarlet Rose
64
There Is Beauty In Small Things
One day when I was walking,
Beside the sun drenched sea,
I saw a man of sixty,
Softly calling me.
He sat within a wheelchair,
With dark glasses on his nose,
And in his hands which trembled,
He held a scarlet rose.
I knew he couldn’t see me,
As saw his eyes were blind,
But the gaze that fell upon me,
Was bold but yet so kind.
He handed me the scarlet rose,
With tears in his eyes,
“l will tell you of this rose”, he said,
“Before this old man dies.
God has blessed me with this rose,
To remind me there is light,
For its scent so sweet and beautiful,
Drifts through lonely nights.
Its petals are the softness,
Our hearts are meant to be,
The stem that holds the flower,
Is the strength that sets us free.
I can feel it’s wholesome beauty,
If I take it in my hands,
As I wish for peace and unity,
For every colour man.
Never walk by sight alone,
But walk by faith instead,
Remember all your lifetime,
The words this man has said.
I’m old and crippled I admit,
But my spirit lives inside,
I will live in honour daily,
Until the day I die."
I held this old man’s hand so firm,
As tears blurred my sight,
For the love that burned inside my heart,
Told me he was right.

This was lovely, thanks so much for sharing it.
Very beautiful. Thanks for the poem. I posted the question you asked in the hubbers hangout forum about the IP address. Someone should be answering it soon.
What a truly beautiful poem. Nice job. Next time I see a rose I will think of these words from your poem:
its petals are the softness,
Our hearts are meant to be,
The stem that holds the flower,
Is the strength that sets us free

What a weirdo!!! Snatch his ip address , that is absolutely ridiculous and do not respond to any e-mails no, no , no!!!!:)
By the way love the article!!!!
No, you think that's freaky, you should see his Hubtivity... It's rather amusing in an internet predator kind of way. He'd sent me an email, so I decided to be evil and use a spam email address I have to reply (spam email address = email inbox with one purpose; to hold spam. :D) to the message. Five bucks down says he's either a hacker, a spammer, a pervert, or juse some crazy dude. Who got five dolla? Anyone?
Also, since I'm here, I should tell you I very much enjoyed the poem. It made me smile. And I love the zodiac picture of Aquarius at the bottom; that's my astrological sign. :)
Such a great poem with interesting insights. Keep those hubs coming. I enjoyed reading them.

' Its petals are the softness, Our hearts are meant to be.'! this is such an amazing work my friend! You're a great poet! Very affective choice of words, and so humane! Geatly done! It simply stands out!
this is simply awesome
I love the way this is written. Beautiful...
WOW,
Knocked me sideways that did. It's simplistic yet so effective. I wish I had your skill.
that was lovely...... my rose too.xxxxx
YOU HAVE THE GIFT...AND YOU SHARE!!!!! The imagery is beautiful, the words are inspiring, the meaning is profound. Thanks
Inspiring...
beautiful beautiful hub!
I wonder about posting the comment of a nut. Are you giving him the attention he does not deserve? Or, can it be a warning to us all. Anyway, we should not email any of the kooks, or even people who are 'strangers.' Lovely poem.
nice
Very nice. Be well!
Great poem, good rhythm and flow, and very nice images. I'm a fan of poetic images, nice, and also, was that weird guy who replied here for real, or a joke, really.
So touching and poignant! It's so sad that so many people are only able to grasp such lessons after their life has all but passed--if they ever "get it" at all. Thanks for the eloquence of your words; they have led me to experience a true moment of deep, inner reflection.
It is a truly beautiful poem - felt it within my soul...
Beautiful. Haunting. Wish I could write a third as good as this.
How the did he get his wheelchair across the sand to the shore? Especially with a rose in one hand. Also was he wearing a Sixty today birthday badge? Now that's what I call poetic license. :)
Hold on and he was blind! How did he see you to call to you? I am sure the sand would have dampened your footsteps plus the noise of the ocean.
Chinese proverb : Death comes quickly to those on the beach with old blind men on the loose in four wheel drive monster trucks. He was probably thinking he was in a restaurant and calling for the waiter :)
Oh to be such a cynic lol.
So what is the fancy dress nurses cap all about? Is that vital poets attire? I always thought the beret to be more in keeping with a poet... OK and perhaps a pipe, but ill take it you don't smoke one of those, just the occasional cigar. :)
Well first I vape not smoke, and second I am only allowed to give my cigar to my wife :)
Pity vaping is banned in Oz. But here in good ole Texas this Brit can still vape himself dizzy.
Hey I put this hub up a point for you :) See I maybe a cynic but I just keep on giving (cigars excluded).
So you like bent ones with a large bulbous end? Pipe that is lol. I think it is double entendre week next week on flirtpages :)
As for the truth... it was left in the back of a four by four truck last seen heading towards the ocean at speed.
Blonde:
I so envy those of you who can write with such feeling and meaning....and make those thoughts rhyme!
That poem touched my heart!
I've tried writing rhyming poetry...I struggled at it!
If ya get a chance, pls read one of the only poems I wrote and let me know what ya think. "The Imp Called Man."
You DO have a way with words!
In a word BP - Beautiful. =)
Girl you can write. This is excellent. I have rated it up and linked it to my latest hub. It is a poem entitled Pain, Fear and Regret. I hope you don't mind.
Very Touching BP. I am sorry that I didn't stop by sooner.
I WAS A BLIND MAN .... BUT NOW I SEE
YOUR WORDS OF DIVINITY HAVE INSPIRED ME!
..actually I just need to tell you - yes I have regained my sight as mentioned above and have come back here to fall in love all over again with your miraculous poem!
..and yes ... once again .. tonight!!!
Wow! How powerful was that. Gave me goosebumps.
I enjoyed that. It was very moving. Thanks for sharing.
You're still the one BP!
Thanks for sharing Love it
This seemed to be a very sentimental piece. I love roses and what they represent. Very nice.
Also, I'm curious as to why the first letter of each stanza is in bold?
